Frequently Asked Questions
We have ten values which each highlights the importance of the work that we do. Each value has their own explanation to why it was important which we have listed below.
No – you can refer yourself. Either contact Pain Association Scotland for details of your nearest group (freephone 0800 783 6059, email info@painassociation.com) or select your nearest group from the online list of meetings, and go along. You will be made welcome!
You will be able to ask questions about the Association and what to expect at a meeting. The office will also send you an information pack about the Association.
Each month the group will focus on a different topic, and the group’s discussion will be led by a staff member. Each group practices self-management techniques such as deep breathing, relaxation, and balanced, gentle movement for mobility. You will be with people in a similar situation to your own, who understand and empathise with your problems and concerns about chronic pain.
Don’t worry – every group practices confidentiality. What’s said in the group, stays in the group. The Association only keeps records of names and addresses, for administration purposes.
Yes – the Pain Association Scotland office can be contacted using the Freephone number 0800 783 6059 or by email (info@painassociation.com) to answer your question.

Each year we invite people to make an annual voluntary contribution which you may wish to make, based on the value you feel the service has been to you and the difference it has made to your life.
Our group meetings are lead by a trainer with substantial experience in the Self-Management field. More information about our trainers can be found by clicking Meet Our Team.

What People Say
Below is some feedback that our service users have said about attending either one of our 5 week courses or the monthly groups.
“By being online I think we get more 1-to-1 interaction. Also as trainers are not travelling we get the opportunity to email for assistance if we are maybe having a difficult moment and that real time input of support is really helpful.”
Jane
“The group does great things bringing us altogether with people who know and understand what you are going through. You do feel you are not alone with the help and friendship from the group meetings.”
Tony Chester
“I find listening to the group extremely helpful but find it very difficult to contribute to it. I explained this to the group leader and he very kindly reassured me that I wouldn’t have to speak unless I wanted to, which helped a great deal.”
DeVeor R
“I’ve found this course so interesting and helpful, I want to thank you so much for all your hard work and help, I can honestly say I will continue to use everything you’ve taught us.”
Susan Jackson
"I was pleased to hear that she feels that she has moved from a denial period to an acceptance of her pain, she is now more open about it and this has been a great positive change for her.”
